What an order bump is

An order bump is a small complementary offer presented during checkout, before the original purchase is completed. Its job is to increase order value without forcing the buyer into a separate decision path.

Relevance beats novelty

The best bump solves the next obvious problem created by the main purchase: a template that accelerates implementation, a companion resource, an upgrade, or a useful add-on. Random products can weaken trust.

Keep the choice simple

The buyer should understand what the bump is, what it costs, and why it complements the main product in a few seconds. Avoid long copy, surprise pricing, preselected add-ons, or confusing conditions.

Measure the whole checkout

A bump is not successful merely because some buyers take it. Watch total checkout conversion, refund behavior, support burden and average order value. If the bump lowers core conversion, the net effect can be negative.
